The former Elephant & Castle pub is now once again 'to let' as a pub/bar after Foxtons' attempts to turn it into an estate agents office were blocked by a community campaign.
In June we reported on plans by Foxtons to turn the pub into an estate agents.
Following an application by the Walworth Society, Southwark Council designated the pub as an 'asset of community value' meaning that permission for change of use would not automatically be granted.
In July squatters were evicted from the pub and metal panels placed over the doors and windows.
Now 'to let' signs have been installed on the premises which indicate that a new pub/bar operator is sought.
A pub called the Elephant & Castle has existed close to the current site for at least 250 years.
