Car trapped by falling advertising hoarding

The emergency services converged on Blackfriars Bridge approach on Sunday lunchtime after a hoarding collapsed on to a car.

Just after 1pm a car travelling east along Stamford Street was struck by a large advertising hoarding. The vehicle was approaching the traffic lights at the Blackfriars Road junction.

Police cordoned off the area and briefly closed Blackfriars Bridge to northbound traffic. Buses 63, 45, 100 and RV1 were briefly affected by traffic queues.

The hoarding was on the Sainsbury's site on the corner of Stamford Street and Blackfriars Road. The car was in the filter for turning left to the bridge.

No serious injuries are reported.
