A semi-staged performance of Puccini's dramatic masterpiece. The action takes place over 24 hours in June 1800 and is dominated by the police chief Scarpia, who rules Rome with an iron rod on behalf of the King of Naples. But Rome is now threatened by Napoeleon's invasion. Into this politically charged and bloody story Puccini poured some of his best-known lyrical arias, and with wonderfully evocative orchestration.
