30 years ago - in the early hours of 20 August 1989 - the pleasure boat 'Marchioness' sank in the River Thames close to Southwark Cathedral.

On the evening of Monday 19 August, a vigil will be held on Bankside.

A procession will leave Southwark Cathedral at 8.05pm and make its way along Clink Street and past The Anchor Bankside pub to a location between Cannon Street and Southwark Bridges.

On the river there will be pleasure boats and the launches of the Police, Fire & Rescue, the RNLI and the PLA. The Bishop of Southwark will lead a short service beginning at 8.15pm.

People attending are invited to bring natural petals to throw on the water and/or to carry a candle in a jam jar.
