Prince Charles is patron of the Royal Television Society.

The royal couple's visit to the South Bank studios complex included a tour of the 'This Morning' studio in the appropriately named Prince's Wharf.

The visit comes less than a week before Lambeth councillors decide on plans to redevelop ITV's South Bank headquarters with new offices and a controversial residential tower.

Earlier this month the Government issued ITV with a certificate of immunity to prevent the existing building gaining listed status after the Twentieth Century Society objected to the redevelopment proposals.

Lambeth planners have recommended that councillors approve the ITV scheme at a meeting of the borough's planning applications committee scheduled for Tuesday 6 February.
