New council homes could be built less than 150 yards from the Bricklayers Arms junction under plans currently subject to consultation by Southwark Council.
Southwark has launched a consultation on plans to develop the site of the single-storey garages on Leroy Street, part of the Creasy Estate.
"We are considering developing new council homes where three garage blocks are currently situated," says the council.
"These garages are no longer used for their intended purpose and could be used to build council homes for local residents in housing need."
The new homes would be part of the project to build 11,000 new council homes across the borough by 2043.
Local residents have until 14 October to give their initial response to the proposals via this online survey.
