Local GP Dr Patrick Harborow, one of the founders of the Waterloo Health Centre in Lower Marsh, is leaving the practice after nearly a quarter of a century.
"It is with regret that we announce the departure of Dr Patrick Harborow from the practice," says a notice on the Waterloo Health Centre website.
"Dr Harborow will be leaving us at the end of December 2011 after a long and highly accomplished career as senior partner here at WHC and as our GP trainer, teaching the doctors of tomorrow.
"Dr Harborow has made valuable contributions to local NHS issues, championing the voice of local people via the many NHS groups he has participated in over the past several years."
The well-respected GP has also been involved in local community life, serving as a trustee of the Waterloo Action Centre since 2010.
From the new year he will be working part-time in the accident and emergency department at nearby St Thomas' Hospital.
This autumn Waterloo Health Centre renewed its temporary planning permission to continue to use the shop unit at 3 Lower Marsh as part of its GP surgery.
