Shadow health secretary Andy Burnham visited Bermondsey last weekend to meet representatives of local patient and NHS staff organisations.
The event, at Bermondsey Village Hall in Leathermarket Gardens, was organised by Labour parliamentary candidate Cllr Neil Coyle.
Cllr Coyle reminded guests of of Alfred Salter's contribution to establishing free healthcare locally.
Issues discussed during the session included increased waiting times for routine treatment at local hospitals and the strains placed on local A&E and police services by people with mental health difficulties unable to find help elsewhere.
