Kirsty McNeill, who lives in the constituency, was overwhelmingly chosen by party members meeting at the Beormund Centre in Abbey Street.

Earlier Kirsty McNeill had declared: "I have not sought and will not seek selection elsewhere." She is currently employed as a campaign manager in international development and if elected would be the constituency's first woman MP.

At present Liberal Democrat MP Simon Hughes holds the seat with a 9,632 majority.
