Disappointing Takeaway
I really wanted to enjoy this food but sadly it was bland. The meatballs were overcooked and cold, the curry just tasted of sauce, the chicken in it was tastless. The Goi Cuon were nice but stone cold - not sure if they were supposed to be. The chicken wings were minute.

Such an absolute gem!
In a pub on Harper St, a family is doing something very special. At the William, which from the outside appears a pub much like any other, they have set up a wonderful vietnamese dining room. The food is gorgeous, the service personal and heartfelt, and they will win you over from the first. I live no where near the area and I'll be back, i only hope that the locals pick up on it and make it the complete success it deserves to be. Best of Luck!
Disappointing
having been pleasantly surprised when eating out here recently, we decided to order a delivery from them. spring rolls, Papaya salad and minced pork balls (nem nuong) were all ok, but we were disappointed by the rest. the beef vermicelli was bland (we've had much better), the pork claypot was not as described (no hint of coconut) and was a poor version of a dish we know quite well. worst of all was the beef in tamarind sauce, which was just awful msg rubbish. shame really, after our first visit.
Random Vietnamese pleases
3 of us paid a visit recently and were, on the whole, quite pleased. We stuck to Vietnamese dishes: Goi (chicken salad), Banh xeo (a filled pancake), Ca Kho To (braised fish), Nem Nuong (chargrilled pork meatballs), Bo La Lot (beef in betel leaves) and Bun Bo Nuong (grilled beef with vermicelli). The food was authentic, and generally well made, with the Nem Nuong and the Ca Kho To particularly good. The Bo La Lot was the least successful, with the meat too chewy, and the wrapping disintegrating (but tasty all the same). They were a little stingy with the salad and herbs, but this is a common fault. Service was very friendly, with the waitress keen to explain how the food is meant to be eaten.
You can certainly get better and more reasonably priced Vietnamese food in a couple of Hoxton restaurants, but we are pleased to have this as a local, and will be definitely be returning.
Finding its feet, making good progress
I'm no expert on Vietnamese food, but I've now had take-aways from the William 4 or 5 times and I really like it.

They've got a new (to me) menu over the last month or so, and it covers food that I'd say was "general chinese/Oriental" as well as plenty of Vietnamese dishes.

I've yet to try their pho, but a recent meal included a spicy veg salad, a beef with vermicelli dish (possibly sounds odd, but don't be put off by the description) and a Vietnamese curry, which were all really well flavoured, with fresh crunchy veg and well-flavoured meat.

I'd only ever been before and ordered a take-away at the bar, which gave me 15 mins or so to have a quick half and possibly exchange some conversation with the generally cheery barstaff. This works really well for me as I only live around the corner.

On the weekend we were feeling extremely lazy and tried to dial for a delivery. The food was great, but they were overwhelmed with delivery requests and when we called 40 mins after ordering to see where the food was, they said it would be another half hour or so because they didn't have enough delivery people. This was fine for us as we just popped round and collected the food, but you might want to double check if you don't live so close by.

I've got no connection, but both me and Mrs I think this is a great addition to the Harper Road area and we're looking forward to eating our way through the menu over the coming months.
