Del Mercato - a very good Italian trattoria
I totally disagree with the two previous reviews. I have eaten at Del Mercato 3 times over the past 2 months and have enjoyed the food and service. The highlights include Vitello Tonatto and the delicious swordfish in tomato sauce. I have also tried the pizzas here and they are superior to the local competition. I do think that do to it's popularity it might be slightly understaffed.
Worst Pizza in SE1
I went to del Mercato a few days ago with the family. The restaurant was still quite empty when we arrived (it got a lot busier later) but nobody seemed to be interested in taking our order. I had to get up and approach a member of staff! The pizza I had was soggy and bland. The Martini Bianco I ordered came without ice and the bill was incorrect as well. A shame given the location!
A truly terrible restaurant
This is a truly awful restaurant.

The staff are not up to the job. The food was mediocre at best, but the service was just non existent. Most of the staff were just either chatting amongst themselves or carrying around stacks of plates and glasses. Clearly no-one was concerned about the customer

Even the chefs themselves were wandering around the restaurant chatting

When paying the bill, and asking for the 12.5% service charge to be removed, this was met with surprise!

The lady who identified herself as the Assistant Manager did not know where the Manager was, other than being "around somewhere"

If you want to visit this restaurant (and I would not recommend it), I would hurry - it will be deservedly closed down within 6 months !
