What's the Story?
4 of us went last week - I'd read lots of reviews so sort of knew what to expect. The food was good but after the 8th course we were all 'please get on with it'! The service wasn't good at all, which is odd as the waiter/ guest ratio is about 1:2. We were sat down for at least 10 minutes and nobody offered us a drink - we had to ask for a drink, then later we had to ask for the wine list - neither was forthcoming. Of course it's slightly pretentious but the first few courses started well - the beef dripping candle was fantastic, the scallops wonderful. The thing that wound us up the most was the over complicated explanations by a series of people with more and more comic European accents 'zis iz a reduction uv champagne foam wiz a........' - it was a bit like Allo Allo. After one waiter went through and listed all 6 types of cress (yes who knew?) we wanted to kill him.
We then had to wait at least 20 mins between 2 of the courses - this is a 10 course menu, you need the courses to come fairly quickly. And the one of the puddings tasted like those bath bombs you get in Lush.
And then you get a £500 bill. Interesting experience but for that money I want the service to match the food.
