The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall visited the Unicorn Theatre in Tooley Street on Monday afternoon.
The royal couple watched a performance by 50 children at the Unicorn Theatre as part of the national finale for TheatreQuest 2007, a programme set-up by The Prince's Foundation for Children and The Arts.
The work with children began in September 2007 and since then the children involved in TheatreQuest have seen a performance at their local theatre, had the chance to get to know the people behind the scenes and worked on set design and costume making, working with recycled materials, as well as developing their own productions of the play.
The play (A Singer from the Desert Came) is written by award-winning author and playwright Jamila Gavin. It contains strong environmental and social themes and is set in the future when the world as we know it has been destroyed by our current way of life, encouraging the children involved to think about environmental issues.
The Duchess of Cornwall is patron of the Unicorn Theatre.
