55 bags of rubbish have been cleared from the derelict plot at the corner of Green Walk and Alice Street by members of the Jam Factory Residents' Association.
Residents of the Jam Factory development off Tower Bridge Road got fed up asking Southwark Council to clear up the rubbish from the vacant site opposite the main entrance to the complex so decided to take matters into their own hands.
Volunteers devoted 16 man and woman hours to the task and ended up with a haul of 55 bags of rubbish, a fridge and a washing machine.
The corner site is currently the subject of a planning application by Galliard Homes for a three-storey building comprising three flats.
