Tesco is planning to open a Tesco Express store in Borough Road, close to the junction with Southwark Bridge Road.
Documents submitted to Southwark Council by Nathaniel Lichfield & Partners indicate that Tesco plans to occupy the ground floor of the newly completed development at 44-46 Borough Road.
The new eight-storey building includes 24 flats for private sale and 16 shared-ownership homes.
Tesco has applied to Southwark Council (10/AP/2714) to vary a condition attached to the planning permission to allow deliveries to be made to the store seven days a week.
The new convenience store will be situated directly opposite the campus of London South Bank University. It will compete with the Costcutter store in Southwark Bridge Road which also houses the Borough Post Office.
The supermarket chain already has two Tesco Express stores in SE1 – one in Long Lane and another in Tower Bridge Road.
Another store is thought to be in the pipeline for Great Suffolk Street.
