After years of speculation, the identity of the occupant of the supermarket space at the bottom of PricewaterhouseCoopers' new Tooley Street building has been revealed: Tesco Metro.
The arrival of a medium-sized supermarket in the London Bridge area is likely to be welcomed by many local residents after a recent proliferation of smaller Tesco Express shops and similar convenience stores.
The 26,899 sq ft store is largely underground. It is part of the 7 More London Riverside development which is occupied by PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Tesco has applied to Southwark Council for a premises licence for the new supermarket and advertisement consent for signage.
Together with the new Brigade restaurant which opens this autumn in the old fire station, the new supermarket will bring life to a section of Tooley Street which has been a perpetual building site for at least a decade.
