A new campaign group called Air Quality Waterloo is urging Lambeth Council to carry out regular monitoring of air pollution in the area.
The campaign was originally formed by local residents concerned about fumes from Waterloo Bus Garage in Cornwall Road and has expanded its horizons to encompass wider environmental concerns.
The group has launched an online petition calling for better monitoring of pollution levels around Waterloo.
At present, the nearest air pollution monitoring stations south of the river are in Vauxhall and Old Kent Road.
AQW also wants to hear from Waterloo residents who believe that their health has suffered due to air pollution.
In March Lambeth's cabinet is expected to approve the borough's updated Waterloo supplementary planning document which calls for the bus garage to be relocated away from Cornwall Road.
Waterloo Bus Garage is the base for vehicles used on the 507 and 521 routes. Later this year two electric buses will be introduced on these routes but it is not known whether these new vehicles will be stationed at Waterloo or elsewhere.
