The northern end of York Road at Waterloo is to be closed southbound until the end of the week for emergency gas works.
The emergency repairs – underneath the railway bridge carrying trains between Charing Cross and Waterloo East – were announced on Monday by Southern Gas Networks and are expected to last four days.
The road closure caused tailbacks around Waterloo on Tuesday morning as well as disruption to local bus services.
Details of the bus diversions had not been published on the Transport for London website at the time of writing. Affected routes include the 381 and RV1.
