Transport for London has now started describing the new fleet of crew-operated buses as 'New Routemasters'.

Until now, the vehicle popularly known as the 'Boris bus' has always been referred to as the 'New Bus for London' or NB4L in official documents.

The buses will be introduced on route 148 between between Camberwell Green and White City – via Elephant & Castle and Westminster Bridge – in February next year.

The route carries 22,500 passengers a day and will require a fleet of 25 buses at peak times.

Open-platform buses last ran across Westminster Bridge in 2005 when the classic Routemaster buses were withdrawn from route 159.
