The church of St Matthew's-at-the-Elephant is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its current building.
St Matthew's-at-the-Elephant – formerly on the New Kent Road – was rebuilt in Meadow Row in 1993 as a combined church and community centre.
The original church site is now occupied by St Matthew's Court, a block of flats owned by the Southwark and London Diocesan Housing Association.
The new church building was opened on 10 December 1993 by Diana, Princess of Wales.
On Sunday morning the church held a festival Eucharist to celebrate the anniversary.
The preacher was the Very Revd Jonathan Greener, Dean of Wakefield, who was the curate at St Matthew's at the time the church was rebuilt.
Guests at Sunday's service included Cllr Sunil Chopra, Deputy Mayor of Southwark, and Simon Hughes MP.
