Four GP practices operating from eight locations in SE1, SE17, SE5 and SE15 are planning to merge to form a single NHS medical practice this summer.
Aylesbury Partnership, Bermondsey & Lansdowne Medical Mission, Princess Street Group Practice and the Walworth Partnership are planning to merge this summer.
Between them, the existing practices operate from eight surgeries including four locations in SE1:
• Princess Street, Elephant & Castle
• Decima Street, Bermondsey
• Artesian Health Centre, Bermondsey Spa
• Dun Cow Surgery, Old Kent Road
Between them the surgeries serve 60,000 patients in North West Southwark.
The practices say that by joining forces they can better prepare for population growth in the area.
If the merger goes ahead this summer, patients will still be able to book a routine appointment with the doctor of their choice at the usual venue, but will also have the option to visit one of the other surgeries in the group.
Southwark Council's healthy communities scrutiny sub committee last week received a presentation on the plans:
A 'patient engagement' event is due to be held this Wednesday 24 February at 6pm (5.30pm for refreshments) at InSpire at St Peter's, Liverpool Grove, SE17 2HH.
