Aaah... Bisto!
Made a mental note to check this pub out after passing it and noticing, upon closer inspection, that it wasn't the run-down post-war council estate pub I first presumed it to be. It looked refurbished and inviting through the windows, with nods towards shappy chic and a few other inspired decorative touches.

Unfortunately Sunday lunch was disappointing. A starter of goats cheese on salad leaves with a honey dressing and nuts was OK, but anyone can throw those ingredients together. My friend's lentil soup had no discernible lentils.

The roasts were barely average - the rib eye was smothered in what must've been instant gravy (because it in no way resembled real gravy), and the trimmings were a tad overdone - all thoroughly unremarkable.

Chocolate cheesecake was (as expected, by this point) bought-in and mediocre. Coffee was fine. Service was friendly and efficient, although the pub was sparsely populated enough for this to be expected.

Prices weren't exactly cheap, but had the food been better then it wouldn't have represented such poor value. Although I might come back and have a few drinks, because I do like the space.

Most excellent pub
My sister and I stumbled upon this most excellent pub one sunny afternoon and have been back many times since. If it's nice out, the garden is a lovely place to relax, and the outdoor speakers add to the atmosphere. Red walls and unique art make the interior inviting in an off-beat sort of a way, and staff is always friendly. Someone obviously knows what they are doing with the music selection, which adds to the atmosphere. The beer selection is good and the customers are a nice mix. The food has always been delicious and fresh- the fish & chips are crisp, and once I had the most divine fish cakes.
Good Thai Food
The pub has been newly refurbished to a high standard and has an eating area that serves very good Thai food. We have eaten there several times and the food is very authentic. It is cooked by a very pleasant Thai couple. The waiting staff are very friendly and gave us a small gift at the end of the meal, as a token of appreciation. The portions are a good size and very reasonably priced. They also serve English food also very reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend this, the food quality is equally as good if not better than other Thai food pubs I have tried in the area.
