Waterloo roadsweeper Dave Squires immortalised in mosaic

London SE1 website team

A new memorial to much-loved Lower Marsh roadsweeper Dave Squires has been installed at Waterloo Action Centre.

Dave Squires mosaic

Last summer Lower Marsh fell silent as Dave Squires' funeral cortege passed through the market.

Dave, who died at the age of 60, was a well-known and popular figure in Waterloo. He was photographed by Rankin in 2007 for a South Bank exhibition.

The mosaic has been made by Sivie Jacobi, Antonio Vieira and David Tootill at the Southbank Mosaics social enterprise in the crypt of St John's Waterloo.

The memorial has been supported by NHS Lambeth, which has its headquarters on Lower Marsh, and Lambeth Council.

You can see the mosaic outside Waterloo Action Centre in Baylis Road.
