The Fénix 2 capsule created in a naval shipyard for the rescue of 33 miners trapped 700 metres underground in a Chilean mine last year has been put on display in Albert Embankment.
The capsule has been displayed in the forecourt of the headquarters of the International Maritime Organization for the past three weeks.
The Fénix capsules were designed by the Chilean Navy in collaboration with NASA.
Fénix 2 – with a diameter of just 54 centimetres – was used to rescue the miners from the San José mine after their 69-day ordeal.
