Wreaths were laid at the Soviet War Memorial in Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park on Wednesday morning to mark the 67th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe.
Participants in the ceremony included the deputy mayor of Southwark, Cllr Althea Smith, the deputy leader of Southwark Council Cllr Ian Wingfield and Minister-Counsellor Alexander Kramarenko of the Russian Embassy.
Cllr Anood Al-Samerai read a message on behalf of Simon Hughes MP who was unable to be present due to the state opening of Parliament.
The ceremony was attended by British and Soviet war veterans, diplomats from former Soviet republics and representatives of a variety of organisations including the London Nautical School.
Later in the day the Duke of Gloucester was guest of honour at an event on board HMS Belfast to commemorate the Arctic Convoys.
