The developer planning to redevelop the Heygate Estate site at Elephant & Castle has released a new image showing how the area could look when the regeneration programme is completed in 2025.
Southwark Council is currently considering an outline planning application submitted by its development partner Lend Lease for nearly 2,500 homes on the footprint of the Heygate Estate; the image is indicative at this stage as few of the individual buildings have yet been designed in detail.
The company says that detailed planning applications for 284 homes on the site of the Elephant & Castle Leisure Centre and 274 homes in the first phase of the Heygate redevelopment will be submitted within the next two months.
If approved, work could start next year with the final phases reaching completion 12 years later.
• This Sunday Enrica Colusso's film about the Elephant & Castle regeneration project – Home Sweet Home – will be screened at the Open City Docs Fest. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion featuring writer Owen Hatherley.
