The sub-dean of Wakefield Cathedral in West Yorkshire has been appointed to the same role at Southwark Cathedral.
51-year-old Canon Michael Rawson will this December take up the post of sub-dean and canon pastor of Southwark Cathedral and minister-in-charge of the newly rebuilt St Hugh's Church in Crosby Row.
Canon Rawson succeeds Bruce Saunders who retired in June this year.
"I am delighted to be joining the team at Southwark Cathedral," said Michael Rawson.
"The Cathedral is a prayerful yet vibrant place which seeks to serve the people of the community.
"I am especially excited too to be able to work with the people and community of St Hugh's as they continue their journey in their new church."
The Dean of Southwark, Very Revd Andrew Nunn, said: "Michael is a wonderful addition to the clergy chapter at Southwark.
"He will bring experience of cathedral ministry and community engagement to his role and will help us to develop our mission and ministry in the local area."
The Bishop of Southwark, Rt Revd Christopher Chessun, said: "When Canon Michael Rawson joins the cathedral foundation we will once again have a full complement of talented canons and I give thanks that his gifts and experience will strengthen our mission and service in the cathedral parish and wider diocese."
Earlier this month Canon Mandy Ford was installed as the cathedral's canon chancellor.
