UK and Dutch Marines stage display on Thames during state visit

The capability demonstration was staged for King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands who watched from the Dutch ship HNLMS Zeeland which was moored alongside HMS Belfast.

Armed marines were also on the deck of a City Cruises pleasure boat as part of the exercise.

"Our forces have worked closely with the Netherlands amphibious forces for more than 45 years, demonstrating world-class military integration," said defence secretary Gavin Williamson.

"Right now, our Royal Marines are working alongside their Dutch counterparts in Norway as part of the Defence Arctic Strategy, which shows our deep shared commitment to European security.

"This state visit allows us to take stock and celebrate an enduring alliance with one of our closest defence partners."

The visit to the Pool of London was part of the final day of the state visit of the Dutch King and Queen. After leaving London Bridge they travelled to Lambeth to visit the Pop Brixton project.
