A large crowd attended the 'Friday Fun in The Park' event at Mint Street Park despite dull weather and occasional drizzle.

The event saw the park turned into a village green with the grass dotted with tents.

Among those appearing on the music stage erected by the tiered lawn were the Borough Music School and the Blackfriars Nightingales.

A five-a-side football competition with teams from local businesses and other groups was organised by Better Bankside.

Decorated mugs were given away at the Southwark Credit Union stall and free Alexander Technique advice provided at the South Bank Alexander Centre gazebo.

Volunteer Centre Southwark offered opportunities to be involved in community projects and Zipcar from Borough High Street displayed a new vehicle from its Bankside car club fleet.

Cathedrals Ward councillors Danny McCarthy, Adele Morris and David Noakes were on the Borough & Bankside Community Council stand.

The on-site Mini Mints ran children's activities to coincide with the end of school time. Refreshments were were available from Blackfriars Settlement tea tent and the Bengali women's group from the Rockingham Estate.

The afternoon fair, organised by Blackfriars Settlement and Bankside Open Spaces Trust, was the park's first major summer event for two years.
