Waterloo Action Centre has won £50,000 of funding from Lambeth Council in a public vote.

Waterloo Action Centre, housed in the former public library in Baylis Road, received 49 per cent of the vote in the £50,000 band of Lambeth Council's 'Your borough, your budget, your choice' exercise.

The money will enable WAC to soundproof the building so that activities in different rooms will not disturb one another, provide a proper dance floor, update and expand the toilets, provide some equipment requested by the 60+ users and carry out other improvements.

The only other SE1 project on the shortlist – the Titanic Community Garden at the London Nautical School – missed out on a grant of £25,000 which went instead to the Southside Rehabilitation Association in Norwood.

Overall there were 8,047 votes cast across the four bands.
