Competitors in the Port of London Challenge assembled near the National Theatre on Thursday evening to set off on a 4.4 mile race up the Thames.
The Port of London Challenge is a relatively new addition to the river calendar, having been founded in 1996.
The challenge is rowed over a 4.4 mile course from HQS Wellington – moored between Blackfriars Bridge and Waterloo Bridge – to Chelsea Harbour.
The cutters are crewed by six rowers and a cox. In keeping with tradition, a passenger must be carried.
