The new store at the corner of Westminster Bridge Road and Lower Marsh opened its doors this week after a year-long hiatus.

The shop occupies the ground floor of the Dover House development in the former Dover Castle pub building.

The Co-operative has refused to comment on the reason for the delay.

Bizarrely, the new shop features bilingual in-store signage in Scots Gaelic and English.

Last month the Mayor of Southwark Cllr Dora Dixon-Fyle cut a ribbon to open the new Co-operative Food store at Neo Bankside in Sumner Street.
