Culture secretary Matt Hancock has issued a 'certificate of immunity from listing' to prevent ITV's London Television Centre on the South Bank from gaining listed status in the next five years.
The certificate of immunity came into force last week and comes as ITV is pursuing plans to knock down its TV studio complex on the South Bank.
ITV submitted a planning application to Lambeth Council last summer for a new headquarters building and 31-storey residential tower.
In the autumn planners at the Greater London Authority told ITV that their proposal to offer just 10 per cent of the new homes on the site as affordable housing was "wholly unacceptable".
The existing London Television Centre dates from the early 1970s and was built for London Weekend Television.
