East Street Library in Old Kent Road will be open for fewer hours each week from April, but will open on five days a week instead of four, Southwark Council has confirmed.
Artist Maggi Hambing has been commissioned to design a sculpture to commemorate Charles Dickens and his relationship with the Borough which will be installed next to St George the Martyr Church.
Two projects that recall Charles Dickens' formative years in Southwark are to share almost £86,000 in grants from the Heritage Lottery Fund, it was announced last week.
Last year Lambeth Council invited residents to become snow wardens to help keep pavements and side streets clear in the event of snowfall but Waterloo and Kennington residents have failed to respond to the call.
Labour and Lib Dem London mayoral candidates Ken Livingstone and Brian Paddick have called on Boris Johnson not to overturn Southwark Council's decision to refuse planning permission for the redevelopment of Eileen House at Elephant & Castle.
